The Ministry of Economy discussed priorities for cooperation in the agricultural sector with the Spanish Office for the Reconstruction of Ukraine
Ukraine and Spain discussed priorities for cooperation in the agricultural sector — ranging from support for producers near the front lines and irrigation to agricultural processing, logistics, demining, and alignment with EU standards.
Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk held a meeting with a delegation from the Spanish Office for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, led by Director Clara Guzmán Sapatar.
The negotiations were also attended by the head of the State Food and Consumer Service, Serhiy Tkachuk, representatives of relevant departments, and the economic and trade section of the Spanish Embassy in Ukraine.
The parties discussed strategic approaches to the recovery and development of Ukraine's agricultural sector in the context of martial law and European integration.
The Ukrainian side provided information on the key and urgent needs of the industry. In particular, they discussed support for agricultural producers in frontline areas, the restoration and modernization of irrigation systems, the development of livestock farming and agricultural processing, the development of storage and logistics infrastructure, the humanitarian demining of agricultural land, and the challenges associated with the implementation of land reform. The parties also noted the productive dialogue in the fisheries sector and the possibilities for continued support.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of adapting agricultural policy to the requirements of the European Union, integration into the EU common market, and strengthening the institutional capacity of the sector. The possibilities for modernizing laboratory infrastructure as a prerequisite for expanding the export opportunities of Ukrainian products and ensuring compliance with EU standards were also discussed.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue consultations on possible cooperation projects and financial and technical support instruments in line with the identified priorities for the development of Ukraine's agricultural sector.
