Ukraine Prepares for Electricity Market Integration with the EU: Memorandums Signed
NPC “Ukrenergo,” JSC “Market Operator,” and LLC “Ukrainian Energy Exchange” have signed memorandums of cooperation to coordinate preparations for the integration of the Ukrainian and European electricity markets.
This involves a market coupling mechanism, which provides for joint electricity trading on the “day-ahead” and intraday markets of Ukraine and EU countries, with simultaneous allocation of available cross-border transmission capacity.
The signed memorandums cover the development of the contractual and organizational framework, technical cooperation, the integration of information systems, and the coordination of business processes. The parties also plan to collaborate with the NEURC, the Ministry of Energy, ENTSO-E, ACER, and European market and transmission system operators.
Ukrenergo noted that the memorandums do not provide for exclusivity. The company is ready to enter into similar agreements with other participants planning to obtain the status of a nominated electricity market operator in Ukraine.
This coordination is intended to ensure the preparation of the legal, technical, and organizational solutions necessary for the future integration of the Ukrainian energy market with the European market.
