Railway workers plan to repair more than 1,000 km of tracks throughout Ukraine this year

With the start of the spring-summer period, railway workers are launching the season of scheduled track repairs. In 2026, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to repair over 1,000 km of railway tracks throughout Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
The main focus of the work is train safety, preventing speed restrictions, and ensuring stable throughput capacity for passenger and freight transport.
Repair work will be carried out in all regions of the country, including frontline areas, as well as on key logistics and transit routes. Preparations for the season began in winter: currently, about 150 km of rail-sleeper grids and over 120 sets of turnouts are ready for installation. This allows for the rapid deployment of work on the sections and minimizes restrictions on train traffic.
Due to the fact that the only manufacturer of Ukrainian rails, the Azovstal metallurgical plant, was occupied and destroyed, rails from leading global manufacturers in Austria, Poland, France, Japan, the Czech Republic, and China are being used in the work. Railway workers will also use reclaimed materials after restoration to make efficient use of resources, save money, and maintain the infrastructure in proper technical condition.
Despite the full-scale war, Ukrainian railway workers continue to ensure stable and safe train traffic and the reliable operation of the railway as one of the key elements of the national economy and logistics.
