Ukraine and Austria to Expand Cooperation in the Field of Renewable Hydrogen
Ukraine and Austria have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of renewable hydrogen. The parties plan to develop hydrogen production, storage, and transportation infrastructure and attract investment in energy projects.
First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Austrian Federal Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism Wolfgang Gattmannsdorfer signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Austria in the field of renewable hydrogen, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
According to Denys Shmyhal, the document provides for the development of production, the creation of infrastructure for hydrogen storage and transportation, as well as the attraction of investments in this sector.
Denys Shmyhal and Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer also discussed other bilateral agreements. As the head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized, Austria is home to key manufacturers of energy equipment that can be used to restore Ukraine’s energy sector.
“Our partners are ready to transfer equipment from their own thermal power plants to us to prepare for the upcoming heating season. We are exploring this possibility. We also appreciate the contribution to the Energy Support Fund, which amounts to 15.5 million euros,” emphasized the First Deputy Prime Minister.
According to him, close cooperation has been established between Ukrainian and Austrian businesses in various energy sectors. Austrian companies are already storing gas in Ukrainian storage facilities. Among the priorities are expanding cooperation in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities and joint gas production projects.
