The Ministry of Defense has procured a record number of multicopters for the front lines
In January–February, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense procured a record number of multicopters for the front lines. The military will receive at least twice as many drones as during the same period last year, while alternative systems using AI are being tested in parallel.
As reported, at the request of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Defense Procurement Agency (DOTA) procured a record number of multicopters for the front lines in January and February. As a result, the military will receive at least twice as many of these drones as during the same period last year.
These include Mavic, Autel, Matrice, and other multicopter systems that perform critical combat missions daily at tactical depths. The increase in multicopter procurement directly addresses the needs of the Defense Forces’ units. They are used for reconnaissance and fire correction at depths of up to 5 km, striking infantry with munitions, mining roads, and improving the accuracy of FPV drones.
During combat operations, units regularly lose multicopters, so the military needs them in significant quantities. The Ministry of Defense pays special attention to the efficient distribution of equipment among combat units so that drones reach exactly where they are most needed as quickly as possible.
As early as February, multicopter deliveries increased by 17% compared to January. This was made possible by the prompt conduct of tenders and the signing of contracts for the necessary quantities of equipment.
At the same time, work is underway on AI-powered alternatives to the Mavic. The Ministry of Defense is already testing solutions that will soon be scaled up on the front lines.
