New Requirements for Organizations Extending the Service Life of Freight Cars Have Taken Effect
New requirements for extending the service life of freight cars have taken effect in Ukraine. Only certified companies will be allowed to perform repairs and technical inspections.
As of June 30, 2026, new requirements for the technical inspection of freight cars whose standard service life has expired are in effect in Ukraine.
From now on, repairs to railcars with extended service life may only be performed by certified railcar repair enterprises. In addition, each technical decision regarding the feasibility of a railcar’s continued operation must be accompanied by a separate certificate of conformity.
These changes establish a clear mechanism for identifying specialized organizations authorized to carry out the procedure for extending the service life of freight railcars.
This refers to a set of procedures that includes technical diagnostics of the railcar, the preparation of the corresponding technical decision, and the issuance of a certificate confirming compliance with the requirements of the Technical Regulations. It is on the basis of these documents that a decision on the continued operation of the rolling stock may be made.
The new rules are intended to improve the safety and quality of repair work, as well as make the procedure for extending the service life of railcars more transparent and controllable.
For customers, this means clear requirements for contractors, the ability to choose among certified companies in a competitive environment, and the ability to receive confirmation of the quality of the work performed in accordance with state-established standards.
For the railcar repair industry, the new requirements establish uniform rules for operating in the market and reinforce the role of certification as a guarantee of professionalism and safety in services.
